If I had a chance to meet God, I would ask him why so many innocent people suffer; why is there such a disparity between the rich and the poor? What did I do to deserve to be where I am as opposed to living in a slum? Why famine? Why drought? Why war? Why?

I understand the human dynamic in it. Globalization for instance, while allowing for increased capital and accessibility, has allowed the development of multinational companies with no human interest, which make pseudo-alliances with governments. There are conflicts over resources and wealth. Additionally, governments actively censor their citizens in some countries, as for the internet, which is representative of the freedom we have today, is in some places closely mentioned and sometimes controlled.

Humans are paradoxical in nature and that is reflected in whatever we do. Kenya, my country, for example, has youth who are willing, fresh and ready to work, but they are bogged down with issues ranging from corruption, bad leadership, lack of direction or ever just managing the dynamics of the rich-poor gap. How does the youth feel then? They feel like they cannot do anything and so they fail to act. It is sad because the youth are indeed our future. It is sad because we have been able to make changes happened in this county, such as in 2007 when the youth voted massively and made their voices heard. The result of that youth mobilization is that a new constitution has been enacted.

It is easy to forget you can be a leader, and even a great one as leadership is something each and every single one of us can embrace. Wherever you are in the world you can influence the lives of those around you. You don't have to be elected or be the president to do so. It is only you who decides whether you want to be a leader or not.

We belong to the earth and our purpose is to leave our mark and to protect it and its people. That is not about leadership, it is simply about being human. We have a duty in life to help one another and to show love, compassion and understanding. Few years from today, I don’t know where I will be but I know I will end up working to benefit others.

I know for sure that before I die, I will have changed people's lives. What about you?
